CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: White Horse begin marathon run-in
2:30pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in News
SOMERFORD'S defeat to Sutton Benger last weekend put a huge dent in their Division Two title hopes, but the villagers remain in the hunt for a top two finish.
So do opponents White Horse who, if they were to win their remaining seven games, could actually finish top of the pile.
Clive Black’s side face a marathon run-in but it they can kick it off with a win over Spike Chandler’s side it sets them up nicely.
Two defeats on the spin for Chippenham West End have ended their hopes of sneaking into the automatic promotion places so the remainder of the season will see Leighton Joyce’s side playing for pride as the look to consolidate a top five placing.
Sutton Benger are next up for the West End and until last weekend the pundits would have plumped for the West End.
But after Benger’s shock 2-0 win at Somerford last weekend this could be another match that produces a surprise result.
With leaders Staverton without a game, Goatacre CC FC will take over at the summit if they beat Miller Sports.
The cricketers, who beat the Miller boys 3-1 at the start of the month, will be expecting another win but things may not be straightforward as Mike Stevens' side are fighting to beat the drop and are looking for a third straight win.
The result is likely to be close with Goatacre tipped to get the two points they are after.
Southwick Wanderers, who beat Jim Wilson’s Kings Arms (All Cannings) side 4-0 a month ago will be hoping that they can produce another match-winning performance when the sides clash in the reverse fixture at the weekend.
Southwick, who suffered their first loss in five games last weekend, will hope for an immediate return to winning way’s and if Matt Rusling’s side are on form they ought to claim win number eight.
