CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Bremhill still in trouble despite win

THE bottom two in Division Three met at Beversbrook in what was a preverbal relegation four-pointer and it was hosts Bremhill View Boys, who boosted the chances of staying where they are for another season with a thumping 9-1 win over basement side Cavalier.

Cavalier, despite not having won any of their 12 games to date, could still avoid the drop if they were to get it together in their remaining eight games which is asking for a miracle of biblical proportions.

First-half goals from Aaron Gardiner and Luke DeBoer along with a double for Kieron Gleed gave Garry Marshall’s hosts a 4-0 interval lead.

The second period saw Gleed score two more to take his morning’s haul to four.

A second from Aaron Gardiner and a goal each for Richard Clargo and Caner Ozkaya made up Bremhill’s nine.

Cavalier’s lone reply came from Jeremy Wiltshire.

Christian Malford 2 Pack Horse Rangers 5

A COMFORTABLE 5-2 victory for Pack Horse Rangers at Christian Malford saw Rangers claim their first win in five outings to end any lingering doubts the Chippenham-based side may have had about their stay in the division.

Late withdrawals for Malford meant manager Grant Christie had to keep goal as they just managed to field 11 players.

Pack Horse started brightly on a wet slippery pitch and soon were causing problems for Malford.

After five minutes they opened the scoring when Simon McCarthy's cross from the left was hit home by Ben Butterfield.

On nine minutes Malford were level when Paul Knight took full advantage of a weak back pass to beat the keeper and score.

Pack Horse were soon in front again, in the 16 minute Ben Butterfield found Callum Upchurch who made no mistake with his shot to give Pack Horse a 2-1 lead.

Malford were then reduced to ten men when winger Craig Fisher twisted his back and could not continue.

Horse took full advantage of the ten men and after 22 minutes Upchurch found Ben Butterfield who scored his second to give Horse a 3-1 lead.

Some good defensive play from Malford denied Pack Horse until the 42nd minute when Upchurch scored his second after some nice play from Simon McCarthy.

Malford resisted the early pressure at the start of the second half and surprised Pack Horse when Mark Kmiec's through ball found Kieran Shiels who beat the keeper to reduce the score to 4-2 after 50 minutes.

Six minutes later Pack Horse were awarded a penalty when Ben Butterfield claimed he was fouled in the area.

Despite Malford's protests that he had fallen over the decision stood and James Bracey scored from the spot to extend Pack Horse's lead to 5-2.

Malford nearly pulled another goal back but Pack Horse keeper Sean Davis saved Kieran Shiels' shot with his foot.

Pack Horse also came close but Matthew Watchman cleared a goal bound effort off the line in the dying minutes.

There was no further score and the game ended with a 5-2 win for Pack Horse Rangers.

Referee Daniel Wordley had a good game.
