CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION FOUR: Dragonz move into second spot
6:30pm Monday 4th March 2013 in News
WITH both FC North Wiltshire and Old Road FC in Subsidiary Cup action, Sportzcoach Dragonz United took full advantage of the situation to claim second spot in Division Four after their 4-2 win at Trowbridge Town Supporters Club, for whom it was their first outing on home soil since the middle of November.
Trowbridge had the better of the opening exchanges with both Dean Coles and Dave Strickland hit the woodwork and missing some glorious chances before Sportzcoach took the lead against the run of play with Jack Craig putting them in front.
Paul Cuthbertson doubled the lead for Sportzcoach before Dean Coles reduced the arrears for the hosts.
A second from Cuthbertson restored his team's two goal cushion but back came Trowbridge through Andy Williams to narrow the gap to the odd goal.
Sportzcoach clinched their victory thanks to a third of the morning from Cuthbertson who had a game to remember as he took his tally to five goals in three apperences.
Melksham Cosmos 1 Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) 6
MELKSHAM Cosmos were hoping to arrest a recent dip in form when they hosted Worton & Cheverell (Sunday), who they had defeated 3-2 way back in September.
But Melksham’s woes continued as Worton who won 6-1 handed Joe Hargreaves side a third straight loss.
Chris O’Donovan used his pace to open up the Melksham defence for Worton’s opener.
James White, a second from O’Donovan and Jake Flower’s effort just before half time put Worton four up at the break.
Kyle Davies added number five for Worton with Lewis Taylor claiming Melksham’s consolation before O’Donovan struck his third and Worton’s sixth of the morning to make up their half dozen.
Trowbridge Rangers 4 Oakhill FC 1
BACK-TO-BACK wins for Trowbridge Rangers has seen Michael Goddard’s side rewarded by moving out of the bottom two and three points clear of the foot of the table.
Rangers' latest win saw them complete a double over basement side Oakhill.
After opening their league campaign with a 3-1 triumph back in September they took the spoils for a second time thanks a 4-1 win.
Tom Webb gave Oakhill the lead before his goal was cancelled out by Sam Miller whose 30-yard screamer went in off the underside of the crossbar just before half time.
At 1-1, Liam Gilbert had a goal disallowed for Rangers before Nathan Ball slotted home from a tight angle to put Rangers 2-1 up.
A second from Sam Miller, this time a bullet header from a corner saw Rangers open up a two-goal cushion and the scoring was completed when Matt Gittins atoned for his error after missing a one-on-one earlier in the game with a neat turn and finish.
Injuries to both Oakhill’s Nick Alexander and Joe Court could see them ruled out for the remainder of the season, which will come as a blow to the Chippenham-based squad who are working with a threadbare squad as it is.
MATCH OFF: FC United of Chippenham v Pig & Whistle United B.
