CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE SUBSIDIARY CUP PREVIEW: Rangers look for derby day upset
1:00pm Friday 22nd February 2013 in News
AFTER defeating top flight AFC Melksham last weekend, third division leaders Corsham Park Rangers will be looking forward to their second Subsidiary Cup Group B outing.
Tim Spear’s in-form side welcome local rivals Corsham United to Leafy Lane and the first division outfit know that their hosts will have their tails up after last week's success.
If Rangers could pick up another two points it would put them in the driving seat in what has been dubbed the group of death.
As expected, Biddestone Social began their cup adventure with a thumping victory over FC North Wiltshire last weekend.
The Division Four frontrunners were no match for the top-flight leaders and after bagging 13 goals last Sunday you have to fear for Old Road FC, who are likely to suffer a heavy loss as Biddestone continue their quest for four piece of silverware.
Third division Talbot FC currently top the Group C table, but after last weeks demolition of Pig & Whistle United B, they are certain to face a tougher test this Sunday when they host local rivals Bug & Spider.
Marcus Lovesey’s side, already in the semi-finals of the Knockout Cup, are favourites to get out of the group and it would be a surprise if they didn’t start with a win over Vic Long’s side.
First division stablemates Steeple Ashton Rangers and Prestige Bodyworks have won their opening Group D matches so the meeting at St Mary’s is a massive game for both as they look for the upper hand in what appears to be a two-team battle to make the semi-finals.
The league meetings of the sides have produced one win apiece and this one it hard to call but with home advantage Ashton may just nick it.
