CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE WG PARR TROPHY: Final awaits Colerne or Biddestone White Horse
1:00pm Friday 15th February 2013 in News
AFTER losing the first of this season’s Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy semi-finals to the weather last weekend, Premier Division FC Colerne and first division Biddestone White Horse will battle it out at Colerne’s Bath Road ground to become the first of this season’s finalists.
On paper it is Colerne, who lifted the cup in 2002 and 2007, who are favourites to book their spot at the Corsham Town’s Southbank Ground.
Colerne, who have been far from convincing on their route to the last four, reached this stage by virtue of a preliminary round walkover when Westbury Rangers B withdrew from the league.
They edged out second division White Horse in round one, winning 3-2 to set up a quarter-final tie with second division Miller Sports who they beat 6-5 on penalties after the previous 120 minutes had finished one apiece.
Biddestone, who are also through to the last four of the Knockout Cup, know this competition gives them their best chance of getting their name into the league’s record books and will give it their best shot.
Colerne will face stiff opposition from a side aiming to reach their first ever final, Scott Fleming’s side received a bye into the first round where they beat first division stablemates FC Boroughs 7-4.
A 4-1 win at second division Chippenham West End took them through to the last four and if they could reach the highs of the last two rounds they have a good chance of causing an upset.
