CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE PREVIEW: Leafy Lane showdown for top two
1:00pm Friday 25th January 2013 in News
THE Division One title may not be decided this weekend but leaders Bradford Renegades will take a massive step to becoming top dogs if they can get the better of their nearest challengers Corsham United when the pair go head-to-head at Leafy Lane in what promises to be a crunch battle in the race for the title.
Renegades have already beaten their hosts 8-4 this term and if they could wrap up a double over Kai Flack’s side they would be in the box seat and will have to implode for them not to finish in the number one spot.
Malmesbury-based FC Boroughs will be bidding for a fifth successive win when they travel to bottom of the table North Star A at the weekend.
Boroughs, who are in third spot, have four games in hand on Corsham United and if they can continue their winning run they have a good chance of finishing in the top two.
A fifth wins looks guaranteed as the Star have yet to win any of their 10 games to date.
After claiming a brilliant 3-1 win over high-flying Corsham United a fortnight ago, Prestige Bodyworks will be hoping that they can build on that morale boosting win when they host Castle FC this weekend.
Tom Perkins' Castle suffered a 7-0 loss when the teams met on the opening day of the season and although they would love to avenge that defeat, they are likely to suffer another defeat against an improving Prestige side.
Steeple Ashton Rangers and Bromham (Sunday) are set to lock horns for the first time this season and for the first time in many years.
Ashton, who are fourth spot, will start as favourites to win the battle of the villages.
But with Bromham going in the game on the back of only their second win of the season, Freddie Paget’s side will be out to claim back-to-back wins for the first time since January 2011.
