CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: Officials monitor weather ahead of next week's programme
12:30pm Monday 21st January 2013 in News
THE Chippenham & District Sunday League suffered its first total wipeout of the season on Sunday as snow and ice claimed the morning fixture list.
League officials made an early call on the weekend programme after the heavy snowfall on Friday.
A league spokesman said: “The decision to call all the games off sooner rather than later proved to be the correct one.
“We will hope for an improvement in the weather before this weekend and we will continue to monitor the situation as the week progresses”
He added: “With the safety of more than 500 players, match referees and supporters to think about, the league would again suspend the fixtures if they felt the need too.
“But as things stand, the games will go ahead unless the clubs and officials hear anything different.’’
