CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Renegades move back to the summit

WITH Corsham United without a game, Bradford Renegades reclaimed pole position in Division One.

The title favourites showed that they have a healthy-looking squad as without strikers Sam Jordan and the suspended Lance Davis and centre backs Dan Jordan and Aaron Thornton, they had to dig deep to claim a 4-2 victory over Castle FC.

Renegades started the game on the front foot and tested Castle's keeper early on, but some good saves from Ashley Robinson kept the score line level.

It was, however, Bradford who took the lead after 10 minutes when a scramble in the area ended up with Steve Bryant poking home from six yards out.

Renegades got themselves a two-goal cushion when they hit the Castle on the break Mark Robinson finishing well after being set free by George Palmer.

Castle finally livened up after going two goals behind and got into the game creating a few half chances.

Jack Fisher finally turned Bradford defence inside out and drilled in a low hard cross which Joe Unsworth got on the end of at the back post and slotted home to make it 2-1 and this is how the sides went in at the break.

Castle had their tales up in the second half and pushed for an equaliser, however this never materialised and Bradford got their two-goal cushion back when Steve Bryant scored again at the back post, knocking in from close range.

Perkins then shuffled his pack and an inspired substitution saw him bring on striker Richard Macklin and after two minutes of being on he worked himself a yard of space and he fired in a low drive from 25 yards out into the bottom corner and The Castle players were buzzing again.

 

Castle continued to push for an equaliser and with five minutes to go Dan Sloan was brought down inside the area by Jordan Pinder and Castle won a penalty.

Gary Campbell stepped up and his spot kick was brilliantly saved by Renegades keeper Kieran Powell and Ashley Styles scrambled the ball away to safety.

A minute later Renegades killed the game when Mark Robinson had a hopeful shot from 35 yards and it nestled in the back of the net after Castles keeper misjudged his position and found the ball in the net before he could re-adjust.

FC Boroughs 9 Bromham (Sunday) 1

FOR a second time this season FC Boroughs and Bromham (Sunday) were involved in a goal fest.

Unlike the first meeting that ended 6-6 the return match was a one-sided affair as Boroughs still in the festive mood romped to a 9-1 triumph.

Dean Rudman was on target for Bromham in a first half that saw Sam Parker and a double from Anthony Brown give Boroughs a 3-1 lead before running away with things in the second half as Parker netted two more to complete his hat-trick and another strike from Brown gave him a three timer.

Jake Fortune helped himself to a couple with Josh Newman’s first league goal of the campaign making up the nine.

Prestige Bodyworks 0 Biddestone White Horse 6

AFTER their pre-Christmas nightmare that saw them concede 30 goals in four games, Prestige Bodyworks fared no better in their first outing of the New Year as they were beaten 6-0 at home by Biddestone White Horse, whose win saw them follow up their 4-1 success over their rivals from earlier in the season.

Biddestone took the lead when Pete Dennett headed in a Ed Jones corner to give him his first goal of the season and they doubled their advantage through Scott Fleming who finished well after good work from Leigh Rogers to give the visitors to Buckley Barracks a 2-0 interval lead.

Dan King intercepted a misplaced pass from defence and rounded the keeper to put Biddestone three up and shortly after it was the turn of Rogers to capitalise on a wayward pass and he calmly tucked the ball away for 4-0.

King's ball across the face of goal was tapped home by Ed Jones to give Biddestone their fifth of the morning and the scoring was completed by Connor McCarron, who claimed his first-ever goal for the club with a brilliantly struck long range swerving effort that made it 6-0.

 

Steeple Ashton Rangers 6 North Star A 0

ST MARY'S hosted the first game of 2013 for both Steeple Ashton Rangers and North Star A and it was the hosts that hit the ground running as they ran out convincing 6-0 winners.

The first half belonged to striker Jake Sainsbury, who netted a 25=minute hat-trick.

His first of the game came on 12 minutes and it was down to his own hard work as he won the ball back from the North Star defence, he then drove into area before converting.

The second came through good play by Marc Sheppard, who spun his marker before playing a ball to Sainsbury who ran through and slid it under the North Star keeper.

Sainsbury sealed his hat-trick on 35 minutes. Mark Reynolds cleared the ball from the edge of the Ashton area, in doing so his pass spilt the Star defence and Sainsbury used his pace to run onto the ball and like his previous two goals, he converted with confidence.

Ashton pulled further ahead on 50 minutes and this time it was Sainsbury who turned provider.

He beat his man down before squaring the to Marc Sheppard who rounded his marker before finishing well.

Sheppard returned the favour again on 70 minutes, his deep cross from the left found Sainsbury unmarked at the back post and he headed home Ashton's fifth.

The final goal of the game saw Sheppard net his second, a poor clearance from the North Star keeper fell to his feet and from the half way line, he drove forward 20 yards before dinking the ball over the keeper.
