CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION FOUR PREVIEW: Top two clash at Leafy Lane
4:00pm Friday 4th January 2013 in News
FC NORTH Wiltshire have so far lived up their billing as favourites for Division Four glory.
North Wilts go into the New Year with a thre- point lead over their nearest challengers Old Road FC and with the two teams set to meet each other on their return to action the leaders, who beat Andy Rose's side 6-1 in the reverse fixture a month ago, will be confident that they can collect maximum points for a second time.
Pig & Whistle United B, who started their campaign with four wins from their opening six matches, will look to arrest a six-match winless run when they host Melksham Cosmos at their Awdry Avenue base.
Cosmos were beaten 3-1 in the reverse fixture, but if they are to avenge that loss they will need to raise their game as they have managed just one win from their last eight games.
Trowbridge Rangers (Sunday) are another of the League newcomers who started with a bang.
Michael Goddard’s side won two on the trot but have lost eight on the trot and that losing streak looks likely to be extended when they host an in-form Crossblades side, who beat their hosts 4-1 in October.
Both Trowbridge Town Supporters Club and Sportzcoach Dragonz United have had a good first half to the season and their will be hoping to continue that into 2013.
Dragonz, who sit in third spot, travel to Kevin Williams side who after four straight wins are up to fifth place but this game could end the supporters’ fine run of late as Dragonz are tipped to beat their host for the first ever time.
Neither Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) or FC United of Chippenham have kicked a ball in over a month so if the weather is kind to them they may at last get to play some football.
Both sides find themselves in the bottom half of the table but have six points to their name so with things looking evenly matched it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the points were shared as they meet for the first time this term.
