CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: Goatacre seek share of top spot
2:00pm Friday 4th January 2013 in News
HAVING lost their share of top spot to Staverton before Christmas, Goatacre CC FC will look to make the most of their rivals' inactivity when they visit Southwick Wanderers.
The hosts, who were one of just six sides to taste action prior to the mini-break, will be seeking revenge for their 4-1 defeat from October.
But although they have been playing well in recent game Southwick are unlikely to get anything from the game.
Miller Sports will be looking for a third win in four games when they visit GRFC and with Tam Laidlaw’s hosts winless in five and going into the game on the back of four straight defeats, Mike Stevens Miller boys will be confident of picking up another win that would move them clear of the drop zone.
Kings Arms (All Cannings) and Somerford are set to renew their rivalries just three weeks after the latter suffered a 3-2 defeat on home soil.
Somerford, who are currently in third place, must avenge that loss if they are to remain in the promotion hunt and having seen their six-match unbeaten run come to an end last time out, Kings Arms may just suffer back to back defeats before they return to winning ways.
Bottom-of-the-table Wren FC may not have won any of their 10 games to date and have already suffered a 7-2 loss against Sutton Benger.
But when the sides lock horns at Stanley Park, Carl Murray’s side will be hopeful of chalking up their first points as their hosts who after a promising start have not won in five.
A win seems unlikely but Wren may get a point from what should be a fascinating contest.
Despite two defeats from their eight games to date Clive Black’s White Horse side remain very much in the promotion race.
But a visit from Chippenham West End to their Leighton Sports fortress will give their title credentials a real test.
The visitors have lost once in seven and now that they are out of both cup competitions the league will be their sole target which makes this a must win contest for both teams.
