League helps with Growing the Game
4:43pm Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in News
THE Chippenham Sunday League has become the first league of its kind in the country to deliver the Football Foundation’s Growing the Game programme.
The scheme, funded by the FA and Government, is designed to increase participation in grass roots football by supporting the development of clubs, with the league working in conjunction with the Wiltshire FA.
The league has helped new clubs – six joined them for the start of this season – set up as well as mentoring club secretaries during the initial stages.
Growing the Game programme has also helped volunteers to achieve FA coaching badges, qualified first aiders, provided first aid kits and professional FA coaches at no charge to the club, with league’s development officer Mike Rogers and committee member Brian (Taff) Evans overseeing its progress..
Rogers is also looking to help promote the formation of a disabled team in the Melksham area.
