LEWIS Taylor hopes League One side Crewe Alexandra can be enticed back to Pewsey Vale for another friendly in the future after more than 500 watched his Wessex League side take on the Railwaymen last week.

Matthias Pogba scored a hat-trick and Harry and Max Clayton also netted for the visitors, but the occasion was a resounding success for the host club as a large crowd turned out.

Taylor said: “Steve Davis (Crewe manager) was very complimentary about our lads and picked out a few who could play at a higher level.

“We had some nice comments from them and I would like to think that we did such a good job that, if they come back down here for a training camp in the future, we can do it again.’’ Jon Guthrie, who left Vale to join Crewe last season, featured for the visitors, with his brother Rob coming on as a Vale substitute in the second half.

Taylor added: “It was the ultimate pre-season workout for our lads – they put their bodies on the line.

“Hopefully, they’ll have memories they can retain for the rest of their lives.’’
