SWINDON TOWN: Town to take on German giants in Italy
11:47am Wednesday 20th June 2012 in Football
Swindon Town have added to their pre-season schedule with a prestigious friendly against Bayern Munich II.
Paolo Di Canio's Town will take on the German outfit, who are the reserve side of last year's Champions League finalists, as part of their pre-season training camp in Italy.
The Robins' clash will take place Wednesday July 11 in Molveno (kick-off 5.30pm) and the club are encouraging supporters to make the trip out to Italy for the showpiece friendly.
Bayern Munich II are managed by former German international midfielder Mehmet Scholl and provide a step for players from the youth team to make the transition to first team football.
Predominantly made up of players aged 23 or under, including former Tranmere Rovers yongster Dale Jennings, the side is expected to provide challenging opposition for the Robins.
Gerd Müller is the team's assistant manager and a host of current German internationals, such as Bastian Schweinsteiger, Tony Kroos and Philipp Lahm, have all played for Bayern Munich II during their careers.
