MALMESBURY Victoria boss Simon Winstone claims his side put in one of their best performances of the season so far as they beat shocked their Premier Division hosts.
Mark Field put the Vics ahead before Rhys Owen was harshly penalised for a challenge in the box, leading to the hosts equalising from the penalty spot.
Despite having Max Sparrow sent off for two bookings, Ed Wilkins popped up with the winner for Malmesbury with a long-range effort in the second half.
“It was probably one of our best performances of the season. The other team didn’t have a shot, apart from the penalty,” said Winstone.
“The referee didn’t have the best of games and the penalty wasn’t a great decision but I thought it was a good performance from us – I was really happy.”
Vics travel to local rivals Wootton Bassett Town this weekend and Winstone added: “Bassett are a very good side and I probably had them as the team to win the league this year but for whatever reason, it hasn’t quite happened for them.
“We’ll have to be up for it and we need to be mentally tough if we want to do well against them – it’s going to be a tough game.”
Vics could welcome back Carl Taylor this weekend but Bobby Hunt and Chris Brooks are doubts.
