FOOTBALL: THE Wiltshire FA have called on clubs to get tough on their players after two referees were allegedly assaulted at the weekend.
Two separate incidents happened in a U14 game in the North Wilts and an U15 game in the Mid Wilts Junior and Minor League.
Mike Benson, secretary of the Wiltshire FA, revealed disciplinary issues across the county are up 30 per cent on last season.
A shocked Benson said: "To even get sent off as a 14-year-old was unheard of in my day but to get to the stage where there are alleged assaults is just unbelievable.
"Clubs have to be more responsible, they have to get to grips with players."
The players involved in the alleged assaults have been automatically suspended and their case will be heard by the Wiltshire FA Disciplinary Committee within 28 days.
