WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: 'Off Day' for Vale

8:10am Thursday 9th September 2010

PEWSEY Vale chief Adi Holcombe blamed a “bad day at the office” as the Wessex League new boys were knocked out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle at their Toolstation League rivals.

Pewsey took the lead early on through Ricky Franklin before the home side’s’ Wayne Pearce levelled the scores minutes later.

Goals from the Almonds’ Simon McElroy and Pewsey’s Matty Bissett made the score 2-2 before Tony Hurkett was brought down in the box.

However, his penalty was saved and the home side wrapped up the win with goals from Jordan Cooper and Harri Hardy.

“The penalty miss deflated us and we looked beaten after that” said Holcombe.

“It’s a shame to go out and we’ll have to just put it down as a bad day at the office.”
