Stunning hat-trick by Wroughton ace Curtis

WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: WROUGHTON striker Lee Curtis ensured his side completed a league and cup treble by netting a hat-trick of his own in their 3-1 victory over Stratton Rovers in the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup final.

It brought the striker's goal tally to 50 for the season.

Wroughton boss Mark Love said it was a remarkable achievement and added: "The success has been a team effort and Lee couldn't have scored that many goals without a great deal of help from the other lads in the side.

"We are delighted we won all three but Stratton made us work hard."

Wroughton broke the deadlock midway through the first half when a good cross from Mike Wilson was tapped in by Curtis.

Rovers fought back and got a deserved equaliser just before the break, Ashley Channing finishing off a good move.

After the interval Wroughton began to have the edge and 15 minutes into the half a cross came in from the right and Curtis was on hand to score with a neat header.

Curtis sealed Stratton's fate by heading in another cross to make sure of victory.

Rovers boss Pat O'Driscoll said it was a really good game, adding: "Fair play to Wroughton, they have won all three and are a good side.

"We matched them in the first half but fell away a little after the interval. I thought our lads gave it a good go and the gap between the two sides was very little."

Westside, needing a point to finish runners-up to Corsham in the Premier Division, were well below par against visitors AFC Trowbridge Youth and were soundly beaten 4-1.

Disappointed boss Joe O'Rourke said: "We just didn't perform. It was not one of our best games.

"We have another chance to put matters right and get a point against Bromham in midweek to seal a fantastic season for us."

Dave Rendell gave Westside a great start, netting after just 15 minutes but the goal was cancelled out by Dean Murdon who equalised just before the break.

After the interval Westside looked uncomfortable against the pace of the visitors and Booker Woodford struck soon after the restart to put his side in front and the visitors netted twice more.

Down Ampney and Warminster were level on two goals each until a devastating last 20 minutes that saw the visitors score three times to run out 5-2 winners.

Danny Hawkins netted both Ampney goals and Tom Malcom (2), Tom Welsh, Tom Clifford and John Ford scoring for the visitors.

Devizes found themselves three up against Marlborough Town with two goals from Jamie Mullen and one from Marcus Wallen.

However, the home side got back into the game on the hour with a strike from Steve Dean and added another from Scott Weedon to have the visitors hanging on for the final whistle.

Malmesbury Vics led by a goal to nil at the break against Calne, scored by Stuart Pound, but the home side fought back after the interval with goals from Lee Fairhead, Jason Roberts and Rikki Summers.

Corsham completed a league and cup double by beating Melksham 2-0 in the final of the Corsham Print Senior Cup.

Earlier in the week they clinched the Premier title with a 3-0 win over Pewsey Vale.

Manager Tommy Dryden said it was a fantastic achievement and the team had worked hard all the season and deserved their success.

James Weston gave Corsham a first-half lead with a 25-yard free-kick, with Jamie Moss making sure of victory midway through the second half.

Pinehurst Olive Branch made sure of the Junior One runners-up spot with a 5-2 away win over Minety all the goals coming in an action packed first half.

Lee Davis started the goal glut after just three minutes followed by a second from Steve Challinor four minutes later.

Arron Welland scored a third on 24 minutes with Graham Read pulling a goal back for the home side.

Davis then added a fourth on 33 minutes and Shane Davis a fifth.

Will Wood scored a second for the home side just before the break. In a quiet second half, referee Keith Butler took the plaudits for his expert handling of the game.

Biddestone and Marlborough Reserves shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
