HIGHWORTH Town boss John Fisher has vowed not to let a bunch of greedy, average players' break him down as he promises a mass shake-up at the Elms this summer.
Having already revealed Justin Miller his summer target, Fisher admits he is looking to bring in six or seven others after his side's 7-1 capitulation at Witney on Saturday ended the season on an all-time low.
Fisher was absent from their final Hellenic Premier Division match of the season, instead watching his daughter in county swimming championships, but warned many of his underperforming squad had blown their last chance.
The defending champions have endured a woeful campaign finishing in the bottom half of the table but, despite quitting once, Fisher (pictured) insists it is not his future that is now in doubt.
He said: "The players have made my job in the summer easy. I could either let them win and quit or just rebuild with a new squad. I will do the latter.
"To lose 7-1 is embarrassing, absolutely unacceptable. I am hopefully doing the London Marathon next year and I am tempted to start now and just run away from this mess.
"We need players who want to play for us, not just for money. The players' attitudes have got to the stage where I am just not enjoying it.
"Their first questions are how much are we giving them? They don't want to play for Highworth but I am sure there are lads out there who do."
Fisher believes greed' is an attitude surrounding the entire Hellenic League at the moment, giving average' players ideas above their stations'.
He said: "We are talking about players in the Hellenic Division. No-one should be getting more than £50, at the most, but some players are getting paid £130.
"You could put a wage cap on it but then players will be walking around with a limp because of the money the chairman has stashed in their shoes.
"I promise next season we will have players who want to play for us. Funny how none of our players were throwing their wage packets back this week."
Shrivenham finished their succesful debut season in the top flight with a resounding 3-0 win at home to Carterton.
Steve Avenell and Mark Peters scored in the first half with Andy Brien adding the third after the break.
Manager Alan Dyton said: "This was a cracking way to finish the season. We have been a bit lethargic but we got back to doing the things that made this campaign both enjoyable and successful."
