Malmesbury Victoria 0, Headington Amateurs 0

MALMESBURY finished their season with a gritty and determined performance that denied Headington second place in the league.

Despite coming under great pressure towards the end of the game the Vics held on to record their first, and only, goalless draw of the season.

Due to unavailability the side was slightly reshuffled, with Matt Wilkins playing at centre back for the first time in six months, Will Halliwell returning to the team at left back and youngster Joe Dorey starting up front.

This didn't seem to hinder Malmesbury and the game started evenly with both sides showing commitment and desire.

With both defences looking strong chances were few and far between, the first falling to Amateurs midway through the half when Ben Baldwin cut in from the left and shot just wide.

The Vics responded and were unlucky when Kevin Grant capitalised on some indecision in the visiting defence to nip between the keeper and defender, unfortunately he couldnt quite wrap his foot round the ball to send it on target.

The best chance of the half fell to the visitors when a great tackle by Halliwell rebounded to Jamie Mundy in space but from his shot Martin Woodhouse made a fine save.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first but as time went on the game started to open up.

In the end though the Vics held on for a good point that saw them secure 13th place in the table while dropping Amateurs to fourth.
