Four star Roddy among the goals for form team

Chippenham Sunday League

STEVE Roddy scored four as Dog and Fox Ashley kept up the pressure on the big guns with a fifth straight win on Sunday.

They thumped basement club Hullavington 5-1 with Jamie Burbedge adding the other and Phil Garland replying for the villagers.

Westbury Rangers A missed out on the chance to close the gap on the top two when their game at Sherston Town was postponed because the hosts were unable to use their pitch.

Corsham Cricket Club also lost their game at Leafy Lane due to the Mid Wilts Youth League staging their semi-finals.

Trowbridge Harriers, who started with only nine players and finished with seven, eventually fell to a 3-2 defeat against Box Rovers.

A double from Tom Smith and Tim Jefferies' winner secured the points, while Harriers replied through wonder strikes from Cameron Henley and Lee Frisby.

Maud Heath Sports trailed Winsley 2-0 after Chris Tricker and Dan Kovacs put the villagers in charge. But once Kovacs limped out of the action, Heath hit back to claim a 7-3 triumph.

Graham Dean scored twice with the others being shared between, Simon Hillier, Darren Holcombe, Daylan Gleed, Chris King and Matthew Waite. Neil Kirkpatrick scored Winsley's third from the spot.

Division 1

SPENCER Sports extended their lead at the top and put themselves in pole position for the title as they swept past bitter rivals Semington Rovers.

Spencer's 3-0 win opened up a five point gap on second placed Christian Malford. Dan King's penalty, after Ralph Plummer had been hauled down in the box, a Barry Holloway header and Luke Ballinger's stunning individual goal sealed a vital two points.

North Bradley had no answer to Colerne's John Gilding who bagged five in his side's 8-2 triumph. Chris Dixon netted the other three, while Kye Leather and Craig Brown (penalty) were on target for Bradley.

Division 2

KINGS Arms reclaimed the top spot from Kingfisher who were left infuriated by Parsons Nose's decision to postpone their game due to their inability to field their strongest side.

Arms' 5-2 victory over Pig and Whistle United was inspired by a superb first half performance. They led 4-1 at the interval thanks to goals from Dean Murden (2), Tarick Yachou and Jamie Young, with Aaron Richardson replying.

Danny Cole pulled another back for United before Nathan Flower wrapped things up with the fifth.

Sutton Benger turned in another fantastic all round team performance to defeat struggling White Horse 5-1 and extend their unbeaten run to five.

Rich Niblet (2) scored his first ever goals for Benger, while Chris Rawlings (2) and James Pope completed the scoring. Craig Pocklington hit the Horse's consolation.

Virgin Mobile are slowly climbing the table as their 2-0 success at FC Bradford saw them move into fourth spot. Richard Bliha and Chris Gale were on target for the victors.

Biddestone Arms heaped more misery on basement club Chippenham United RAOB as three of their former players returned to haunt them with four of the Arms goals in their 6-0 victory.

Old boys Pete Duckett and Pete Humphrey scored singles while Richard Chaffey added a brace. Jack Goodship and Chris Mochan made up the half dozen.

Division 3

IT was a day of shocks in Division Three as both leaders Bar OC and third place AFC Calne suffered defeats to teams fighting to avoid relegation.

Bar OC fell to their first loss in ten games, a 2-1 defeat at Westbury Rangers B.

Rangers broke the stalemate on 24 minutes when Gardiner's free kick wickedly deflected of the Bar OC wall and beyond goalkeeper Mark Stonestreet.

Andrew Webster's brief return to the UK allowed him to make an appearance for Bar OC and, after coming off of the bench in the second half, he equalised with his first shot. Again, the goal was a deflected free kick.

But a mix up in the Bar midfield on the hour allowed Dale Rowlands to run 70 yards, play a one-two with Bateman and drill home Rangers' second which proved to be the winner.

Had AFC Calne beaten Blue Circle they would have taken over at the summit, but their nine-match unbeaten run was stopped by a 3-1 reverse against the cement boys.

With the blustery conditions proving to be a good leveller Blue Circle took the lead via Matt Bradley. Wayne Bristow made it 2-0 and when Bradley's second of the game had put Circle 3-0 up at the break it was all over, although Simon Dance pulled a goal back for the Calne outfit.

Having hit 30 goals in their last three games, Rowde Dynamos needed just one to beat Somerford.

Rob Mitchell's first half wind assisted effort proved to be enough as they came up against in-form goalkeeper Dave Fawcett.

Corsham Park Rangers eased past North Star B with a convincing 4-0 victory.

Corsham opened the scoring in the eighth minute when a foul on Clive Parsons led to Shane Godsell scoring his first goal for the club with a well placed free kick.

Two from Clive Parsons and a thunderbolt from George Bentley sealed the points.

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club claimed their first point in eight games with a 1-1 draw against Sir Audley's Arms. Town's keeper Robbie Newton gave them the lead in the 13th minute when his huge punt up field ended up in the net.

In the second half his opposite number Steve Gee achieved the same feat as his wind assisted massive kick sailed into the net to earn the Audley their point.

Steve Munday hit the post for the Town and Charlie Rawlings had a goal ruled out for offside while the Audley had a penalty overturned by the linesman after the referee had awarded it.

ONLY Sam Dawson's goal from a cross rescued a point for the unbeaten Bradford side as Plough drew 3-3 with AFC Springfield.

Dave Thomas headed Plough into the lead only for Tamlyn Goodrich to draw Springfield level. Matt Oliver put Springfield back in front, Dave Percival levelled, Michael Clarke's audacious lob made it 3-2 to Plough before Dawson's lucky equaliser.

AFC Pilot got back to winning ways with a scrappy 6-2 victory over Chippenham West End Club.

Lee Ridout, Matty Gurke (penalty) and Rob O'Harrow had put Pilot 3-0 up before Gavin Aplin and Paul Manning brought the game back to 3-2 on 70 minutes.

Aplin then missed a sitter before pilot went straight up the other end and made it 4-2 when Rob Dark put through his own net after good work from O'Harrow. Gurke and substitute Sam Stevens made it six.

Rising Sun's deputising keeper Tom Campbell was unable to prevent his team from suffering their 15th loss of the season, a 4-1 defeat at home to White Hart Combe.

Sun's Gary Turnbull scored two own goals, while Gary Butler and Jamie Farquharson made it 4-0 before Lee Rowlett hit a consolation.

Wiltshire Sunday Cup semi-final

PREMIER Division leaders Corsham Centre are one win away from becoming the first side from the Chippenham League since 1994 to lift the Wiltshire Sunday Cup.

The Centre defeated eight time winners Greyhound from the Swindon League 4-1 to set up a showdown with County Ground on April 23.

The Centre, who were far from their best, took an early lead through Simon Gray but Greyhound were soon back on level terms.

A clinical finish form Gray restored the Centre's lead and when Scott Lye poked the ball home Greyhound were rattled, resulting in keeper Ian Gill being dismissed for an untimely challenge on James Lye in the 38th minute.

Greyhound then had Danny Jordan sent off on 55 minutes for a second book able offence, and ten minutes later they were down to eight players as Sean Terry saw red, again for two yellow cards.

The Centre, who had been under pressure, cut Greyhound apart and added a fourth through Russell Gibbings who rifled the ball home from ten yards to wrap up the win.

Centre know they will have to perform a lot better against the County Ground if they want to achieve a feat that has only been done by three league sides previously.

Corsham Cricket Club and Parsons Nose meet in the second semi-final of the presstoprint sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup.

The Cricketers will hope to maintain their fine cup form against the Division Two side who have already claimed the scalps of three premier division sides. Corsham Town stages the semi-final which kicks-off at 10.45am. The winners will face Biddestone Social in April's final.
