Boss Learmonth tells team to cut out basic errors

BASIC errors are costing Biddestone dear according to manager Graham Learmonth.

Two sloppy goals, including a disappointing late equaliser, let two points from a difficult away trip to Longwell Green slip on Saturday.

Learmonth said his side's performances could not be faulted, but they need to cut out their mistakes.

"We're getting it down a little bit and playing," he said. "There's a bit of confidence in the side and because we're in a reasonably comfortable position, they can express themselves.

"That's good to see, but there's still too many little mistakes.

"The annoying thing on Saturday was we would have jumped three places if we won and that would have looked nice, but that split second of concentration makes the difference.

"There's certainly room for optimism. If we cut those silly little mistakes out we would be comfortably in mid-table."

Biddestone failed to focus after arguing a corner decision that went against them and failed to pick up their men from the resulting delivery to allow the hosts an early lead.

However, Jamie Lyons fired them level just before the break.

Following the interval, Biddestone dominated proceedings and deservedly took the lead through Luke Gullick's header.

The visitors were in control and looked to be heading for an impressive away win, but a seemingly harmless shot in the dying minutes took an unfortunate deflection and beat Chris Snoddy in goal.

Biddestone have no league match this weekend, but will be travelling to Oxford University for a friendly.

The game is the university's final warm up before their Varsity match with Cambridge.

Learmonth's men then host Longwell Green on Wednesday, with James Tindle looking to return from an eye injury.

Biddestone are also likely to include left-sided player Will Halliwell in the squad.

Halliwell signed from Malmesbury earlier in the season, but has stayed with the Hellenic side since.

However, Learmonth has decided to bring him over for the final ten games of the campaign.
