Hellenic Division One West:PEWSEY Vale boss Dave Turner could not hide his delight after his youngsters battled to an impressive victory over bully boys Cirencester United.

Turner had called on his side to bounce back with a good performance, following their 5-0 humiliation at Winterbourne United last week.

He said: "I felt the performance was brilliant. The result was almost secondary, I wanted to see some desire and passion.

"They tried to intimidate us and Craig Wall had to go off twice for treatment. After his injury I was surprised he lasted 90 minutes.

"Everyone knew what was expected and we controlled from start to finish."

Pewsey took an early lead on three minutes when Adam Field won the ball to set up top scorer Wall to net past Matthew Keslake.

Cirencester nearly levelled on 15 minutes when a curling free kick towards the far top corner was headed off the line by Chris Oram, but this was one of few dangerous moments.

On the half hour Pewsey should have extended their lead when Tom Ritchie was brought down, but Alan Blake saw his spot kick saved.

But the home fans only had to wait another six minutes as Harry Hambridge slotted home after a fine run.

In the second half Pewsey continued to dominate, although at times the game deteriorated into a scrap with some very hard tackles being dished out.

Pewsey put the game beyond doubt when Paul Fisher played the ball to Wall, who went shoulder-to-shoulder with a defender and slotted past the keeper on 72 minutes.

Cirencester were then reduced to ten men before Wall was denied his hat-trick by the width of the post.

Turner said he would now be looking for more consistency.

He said: "We must have one of the youngest sides in the league and when we lose we do it badly, but we always bounce back.

"We have done nothing yet, but we have proved we can compete."
