Legg at the double as Marlborough snatch points

WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: JUST three games survived in the Plaister Autos Wiltshire League on Saturday as heavy rain took its toll.

Marlborough Town ran out 3-2 winners against visitors Calne Town, the home side scoring two late goals.

They took the lead in the 20th minute when Steve Dean fired a low angled drive into the bottom corner.

The visitors were soon level when a lack of concentration in the home defence allowed Brian Pratley to equalise on the half hour.

Five minutes later they added a second through a thumping header from six yards out by Ricky Summers.

Most of the second half honours were fairly even until Marlborough boss Keith Jackson brought on sub Chris Wyatt and shuffled his side to three at the back.

The move paid off with just five minutes to go when a good run and cross from Justin Guinerie was headed in by Adam Legg to level the scores.

The winner came a couple of minutes later when Legg was on hand again to slide in a cross from Wayne Presley to deny the visitors a point.

Marlborough assistant Pete Ward said: "The lads never gave up and showed plenty of character.

"On reflection Calne didn't deserve to lose, but that's football.'' Shrewton's game against Corsham Town also got the go-ahead, the visitors winning by the only goal of the game to move into second spot.

The deadlock was broken ten minutes into the second half when a good cross from Jason Walsh found Adam Taylor whose shot was brilliantly stopped by Shrewton keeper Billy Poole.

However, the ball ran free and in the ensuing scramble Danny Beck forced it over the line.

With the game inside the last minute Shrewton almost grabbed a share of the points when Jessie Walters unleashed a powerful effort that Corsham keeper Graham Jones pushed away for a corner.

The only other game played was in Junior Division Two where CHQ United got the better of Blunsdon United Reserves 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.

Matt Townsend put the home side a goal up in the first couple of minutes of the game, Blunsdon equalising as Graham Read converted a penalty.

Alan Stratford regained the lead but Luke Hambridge once again levelled the scores just before the interval.

The home side started the second half with a flourish, Andrew Easton heading in a corner, Fabian Daniel adding a fourth and sub Derek Townsend scoring a fifth with a 25-yard free-kick soon after coming on.

But Blunsdon never gave up and, in a late rally, sub Tristan Winter came off the bench to score twice and ensure a hectic last few minutes.

Several junior sides had their Wilts Junior Cup games postponed but Wroughton progressed to the quarter finals by beating Redlynch and Woodfall United 3-0.

Tom Dingle and Barry Dickens put the Swindon side two up at the break and Lee Curtis added a third in the second half.

Castle Coombe beat Lavington 3-0 thanks to goals from James Pope, Rob Hickman and Jason Cole.
