AHEAD of their Wiltshire Senior Cup tie at holders Highworth next week, Marlborough Town turned in a below-par performance, losing at home to Westbury United 3-1.

Manager Doug Imrie was disappointed with his side in the first half, admitting: “We never turned up in the first 45 minutes and we will have to up our game if we want to get a result at Highworth.”

Nick Mead, with a penalty midway through the first half, and further goals from Neil Grant and Matthew Mead gave United a three-goal start with Steve Dean pulling a goal back for the home side in the closing stages.

League leaders New College were always in control against visiting Devizes Town, running out winners 5-1 to consolidate pole position.

Two goals in the opening five minutes from Mani Randawi and Levi Cox set the pattern for the game with Cox adding a third from the spot, with the visitors pulling a goal back, also from the spot.

College wasted plenty of chance in the second half before John Rees and Sam English added further goals near the end.

Shrewton United ended KC’s Club's good run with a 3-2 win over the home side, despite Matt Pratley giving his side an early lead.

Three goals in 15 minutes then rocked the hosts and, despite strong second-half pressure, United held on for victory with Pratley eventually adding a second in the last couple of minutes.

Not a good day for FC Chippenham Youth, who were beaten 4-0 at home by a revitalised Purton outfit, prompting manager Steve Manifold to say: “ It was a shocking performance.

"We were never in the game in the first half, it was very disappointing.”

Opposite number Stef Kucynski was more than happy, adding: “We deserved the win, kept a clean sheet and the only blemish was missing a penalty.”

Two goals each from Dave Rendle and Lee Jones did the damage.

Bradford Town slumped to their second successive defeat when they lost 3-1 at home to Wroughton.

In a fairly even first half Mark Robinson netted for Town with Craig Hogg on target for the visitors, who also wasted a penalty.

The home side had Stuart Powell sent off midway through the second half, handing the advantage to the visitors who scored further goals from Hogg and Tom Goody.

Pewsey Vale continued their stealthy move towards the leaders with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Warminster Town thanks to a hat-trick from Michael Martin and further goals from Ricky Franklin, James Guthrie and Adam Field.

Trowbridge Town moved further away from the bottom of the section after their 2-0 victory over Calne Town, Pete Spong converting a first half penalty and Wayne Porter heading in from a corner to make sure of victory in the second half.

Westside were caught napping in the first half against visitors Melksham Town, who took a two-goal lead at the break.

Almost constant pressure by the home side in the second half was rewarded inside the last 10 minutes with a strike from Jimmy Wright, but the visitors held on for the points.

Westside boss Den Carter said: “I thought the lads were brilliant in the second half and did everything but get a result. It more than made up for a poor first half.”
