Calne Town play their biggest game of the season this weekend and midfielder Ben Fitch says the under-performing players owe the club a piece of silverware.
The Lilywhites, who finished 16th in the Toolstation Premier Division, will take on Oldland Abbotonians from the First Division in the Les Phillips Cup final on Saturday at Welton Rovers’ ground in Midsomer Norton.
“We know this cup is a big deal and it would be nice for Calne to win it,” said Fitch.
“It’s been a disappointing season. We feel like we’ve let ourselves down and we feel like we’ve got something to prove. If we can finish on a high it will give us a platform for next season as well.”
Calne beat Street 5-1 in the semi-final just days after thrashing Corsham Town 7-0. Fitch believes those performances must be replicated on Saturday.
“There’s a good team spirit here, we’re all pretty close, but we’ve lost a hell of a lot of games this year,” he said.
“The season is over now though as far as we’re concerned and this is a one-off game.
“We’ll try to get the ball down, pass it and play at a high tempo like against Corsham.
“If we turn up and play as we can then everything should be fine.”
