Malmesbury boss Ken Regan says he will be pleased to get back to reality this weekend when they entertain Lydney Town.
Victoria lost 4-1 to Premier division leaders Hungerford Town in the Floodlit Cup on Tuesday night; a game that the joint boss admitted was a learning experience for his squad.
They now return to Hellenic league action and while Regan anticipates a tough game he feels his players will be better for the midweek experience.
“The talk after that game was that we are now back to reality,” said Regan.
“But at the same time you learn from games like that. For example, our centre back Jordan King marked a striker who was probably on £300 a week whereas this Saturday he might be up against somebody playing for free. Games like Hungerford will help improve him as a player.
“Lydney are a good side though and were unlucky to be relegated from the Premier Division last year.
“It was only because they’re facilities weren’t up to scratch that forced them to be demoted, it wasn’t a reflection on their talent.
“They are a very physical side and have won half their games this season so it will be tricky.”
Regan was pleased to note that his squad emerged unscathed from Tuesday’s game against Hungerford and he also welcomes back Matty Telton from suspension for Saturday’s clash.
