Melksham Town 2 Thame United 1

FA Vase

Melksham boss Kelvin Highmore said the young players drafted in over the last week have given him a selection problem, after watching them book a place in the next round of the FA Vase.

Melksham produced a confident display to beat Thame United and set up a tie with Wootton Bassett's conquerors Bournemouth in the first round proper.

Highmore will welcome back Nick Bunyard, Frank Coleman and Simon Farrell for Saturday's home encounter with Willand Rovers.

However, he said two wins on the spin have given him a lot to mull over.

"It is a very nice headache for me to have," he said. "The youngsters that have come in have done really well.

"I was over the moon with Saturday's result and I am really pleased with the lads.

"We are playing with a little bit of confidence now and we have just got to keep that going."

Despite making a strong start on Saturday, Melksham found themselves a goal down, after the visitors broke away from a corner to take the lead.

However, they responded a matter of minutes later, as Gavin Eyre slotted in the rebound from a Shaun Bennison shot.

Shortly after the equaliser, the home side took the lead, as Eyre returned the favour with a quick free-kick for Bennison, who fired home.

Melksham dominated after the break, but could not add to their lead.

"It was a good victory and it probably looks a lot closer on paper than it actually was," said Highmore.

"In the second half, we should have wrapped it up, but the lads had responded really well to going behind.

"It was a comfortable win, but one we never really finished off properly."

Highmore has put in a seven-day approach for Paulton Rovers striker Gareth Wright.

"We are trying to add to the squad and improve as a team," he said.
