Match report from the County Ground, Swindon

Coca Cola League One

Fulltime Swindon Town 4 Bournemouth 1

Last weekend's knee injury suffered by skipper Hasney Aljofree gave Chris Blackburn the chance to make his first League start for Town in the centre of defence.

Cherries boss Sean O'Driscoll had greater worries with Warren Cummings, Ryan Garry and Russell Perrett all victim of injury last weekend, and all expected to be unavailable for some time.

The game started at a cracking pace with chances falling at both ends but it took just eight minutes for the scoring to open.

On loan signing Simon Cox latched on to a long ball to fire past the despairing dive of Bournemouth keeper Begovic from 12 yards.

If that was the start Town wanted, Bournemouth did not intend to lose the game easily, and Danny Hollands forced Phil Smith to claim to his left with a 25 yard shot eight minutes later.

A Sofiene Zaaboub free kick almost teed up Jerel Ifil but his shot was charged down, then on 27 minutes Paul Telfer's cross to danger man and ex-Town loan striker Jo Kuffour had Smith clawing for the ball, with Kuffour's shot eventually going high and wide of the far post.

The visitors were playing some good football as Town surrendered too much of the midfield and allowed themselves to get caught in possession too often. On the half hour a Darren Anderton ball found Lee Bradbury in the box but the ball was scrambled away for a corner.

Seven minutes before halftime, Bradbury played a one-two with Kuffour, whose pass to the onrushing Hollands caught Town's defence flat footed. His shot from 12 yards deceived Smith in Swindon's goal and leveled the scores

Things almost go worse for Town minutes later when Kuffour's shot was blocked, then Hollands played a ball out to Bradbury on the Bournemouth left who exposed Comminges' indecisiveness.

Next it was Kurrour's turn to catch Comminges out of positon as Town's reshaped defence showed little of its former security under Hasney Alfofree's command.

The second half began with Town back in charge again and with just three minutes of the second period gone, the home side were gifted the lead once more.

A horrendous mix-up between Telfer and Begovic saw the loan keeper kick the ball straight at his defender as he came out to deal with a through ball on the edge of the penalty box. Billy Paynter gleefully capitalised, running the ball into the unguarded net to give Town the advantage for the second time in the match.

Swindon now started to dominate, with Zaaboub choosing to shoot wide when Lee Peacock was better placed, then more confusion between the visiting defence and their goalkeeper this time gave Craig Easton an attempt at goal as the Town End volunteered the chant of dodgy keeper'.

Simon Cox had the ball in the net in the 55th minute but was ruled offside, as Town made the most of a defence which had had it's confidence severely tested.

There was relief around the County Ground when Jo Kuffour left the pitch just short of the hour mark, to be replaced by Sam Vokes. The striker had given Comminges a torrid time, and five minutes later things got even better for Swindon.

A long kick from Phil Smith was brought down by Paynter, who turned and poked the ball wide of Begovic's left hand to net off the post from 15 yards.

Searching for his hat trick Paynter then fired the ball over the bar from a corner, then just to show that Bournemouth could still not be dismissed, Vokes just failed to connect with a far post cross.

With just over a quarter of an hour to go Paynter won a ball that he had no right to on the right hand touchline and played in the running Cox whose cross just eluded Zaaboub on the far post, then Hollands shot over the Town bar with Smith struggling in the sun.

With six minutes to go though, the hard working Paynter got the reward that his industry merited.

Strike partner Simon Cox powered his way down the left hand side and squared the ball for Paynter to smash home Town's fourth goal of the match to complete his treble.
