DESPITE being backed by another impressive away following, Swindon churned out one of the worst first halves of football the Town faithful have seen this season.

Saturday’s hosts Newport County went into the game without a home win in almost three months, but this ever-generous Town side gave them all the time and space they needed inside the box to easily wrap up the game inside the first half.

With three games remaining and Town now four points outside the play-offs the club’s promotion dream isn’t mathematically over yet.

But realistically we’d have to win all our remaining games and hope others drop points along the way, and as we’ve only won three games out of our last 14, three wins in three doesn’t look likely.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the club at the moment is the future of current manager Phil Brown. Will he or won’t he stay on after we wrap up this crushingly disappointing season?

Looking at the positives since he joined, it’s been reported he’s made a big difference behind the scenes, giving the club a new, much-needed energy and also he’s improved the team defensively, front to back.

But if we look at the other side of the coin, he’s only won one game out of his seven in charge, collecting just seven points.

Many would blame the performances of his players for his poor win record.

While I agree the players should take their share of the blame, it’s ultimately the manager who tells them what to do and how to play, and so far that hasn’t produced the points Town needed.

With the club heading for its worst league finish in 33 years the fans and club need someone who will bring Swindon Town back to life again, and bring back the crowds to the County Ground, similar to the hiring of Paolo Di Canio in 2011.

Many fans feel the right man is in the job already, but so far he hasn’t convinced me he’s the man to lead us back to League One next season.

Maybe that will change over the next few weeks starting this weekend as Town host Grimsby in a must-win game for both sides, as the Mariners fight to stay clear of the bottom two while Town are desperate to keep the play-off push going until the end of the season.
