CORSHAM Town manager Jamie Harrison admits his side are beginning to look over their shoulders in the Toolstation League First Division as relegation becomes a growing concern.

Having fallen to a 2-0 defeat at home to Cheddar at the weekend, Harrison’s team were beaten at the Southbank for the second time in four days on Tuesday when they went down 2-1 to Keynsham Town.

Corsham are now 19th in the league standings, with one point separating them from the bottom three.

While there has been an improvement in performance since he took over at the start of the season, Harrison says he needs to see more conviction from his players offensively if they are to secure their league status for a further season.

“We find ourselves in a relegation battle, where we need to pick up points quickly,” he said.

“We’re doing okay, we are defending well. We’ve got some very talented and skilful players, but as soon as we enter the penalty area, their ability seems to elude them.

“They’re scuffing their shots and they aren’t taking the opportunities that they have created for themselves.

“We have a young side and they are still learning and developing. It could just be that little lack of confidence, or a lack of composure.

“If they’d scored more goals this season, they might be banging them in because they’d be more confident in their abilities.

“At the moment, teams have caught us up.

“Now, because of the weather, we have played the top six in our last four games.

“We have six games left and we need to go and get points. If we had won a couple more games recently, we would be in a much more comfortable position than we find ourselves in now.”

It wasn’t the best weekend for the local sides, with Chippenham Park the only team to come away with a win as they triumphed 5-2 at Sherborne Town.

Aaron Ledgister bagged a brace, alongside goals from Ben Pring, Jamie Cunningham and an own goal.

Devizes Town drew 2-2 away to Ashton & Backwell United at the weekend, with Tom Slater and Jamie Walters scoring for the visitors.

There was better news on Tuesday night, though, as efforts from Matt Lever and Matt Russell fired them to a 2-1 win at home to Chard Town.

Calne Town were no match for high-flying Keynsham Town as they were comfortably dispatched 5-1 by their hosts, Calne’s consolation came through Max Wyatt.

More disappointment followed on Tuesday as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Ashton & Backwell United.

There were also two defeats for Malmesbury Victoria, who lost 1-0 at home to Cheddar on Monday night, having earlier been beaten 3-1 by Saturday’s visitors Wincanton Town.

Westbury United failed to keep pace with leaders Roman Glass St George at the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Chard Town.

Bottom side Warminster Town proved no match for the Roman Glass as they were beaten 4-2 on Saturday.

Charlie Walton and James Chenery Bowden were on target for Town.
