ONCE again the weather caused major disruption to the Chippenham Sunday League fixture programme, although two matches which beat the rain were the AM Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup semi-finals, with both being switched to Leafy Lane.

Last season’s beaten finalists, Corsham CC Wildcats, booked their place in a third successive final after they avoided a potential banana-skin in the guise of local rivals Corsham Oak with a 6-2 victory.

Mark Robinson struck twice for the Wildcats, with Darrin Moss, Lewis McCarron, Kalif Barnes and an own goal completing their tally. Oak’s replies came from Arron Masson and Michael Wilkins.

Division Two pace-setters Box Rovers will meet the Wildcats in the final after a 3-2 victory over Division One high-flyers Semington.

Robert Mitchell put Semington ahead after 11 minutes but Box levelled through Leigh Rogers and then had the lead at the break when Nick Chandler netted.

Box made it 3-1 with 20 minutes to play when Rogers got his second and although a strike from Semington’s Marc Scammell created a few scares, Box held firm.

Premier Division

PHEASANT FC extended their advantage at the top of the Shoestrings Chargrill sponsored Chippenham League Premier Division to four points following their 3-0 victory away at FC Lacock. Nick Ridout opened the scoring with a 25-yard free-kick and Nick Malford scored twice in the second half, with Pheasant’s clean sheet confirmed by a brilliant penalty save from Del Llewllyn.

Both FC Bradford and Westbury Rangers were looking to put the disappointment of last weekend’s WG Parr Trophy semi-final defeats behind them when they met at Poulton, and it was the former who were the happier as they took the spoils in a 13-1 victory.

Harry Hamlin and Mark Maguire helped themselves to four goals each, Lewis Stevens got two and Steve Bryant, John Carroll and Jacob Mazan were also on target. Westbury’s sole response came from Corey Gardner.

Having reached the final of the WG Parr Trophy last weekend, Calne BFC were looking to build on that with a first league win, but it was not to be they lost 9-4 at home to Melksham Town Sunday.

James Dark led the charge with a double hat-trick, Mohammed Santali got two and Melksham’s lot was completed by Sean Fordham.

Calne’s goal scorers were Aaran Ward, Aaran Clegg, Ail Duncan and David Herring.

Division Three

THE battle to be champions looks destined to go to the wire, with both Buttercross and Bromham currently neck and neck at the summit.

The Butter Boys remain top on goal difference thanks to a 7-1 win over local rivals Kingfisher. Gareth Jones got a hat-trick, Kieran Tarrant struck twice and there was one each for Ben Hibbard and Tom Webb as Kieran Blake replied for Kingfisher.

It was a classic case of David versus Goliath at Bromham where they hosts basement side Biddestone, with the high-flyers guaranteeing themselves a top two finish courtesy of a 6-0 win.

Sam Wallis’ double was bettered by Charlie Street’s hat-trick, with Bromham’s final effort coming via an own goal.

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) showed no signs of rustiness despite not having played in over a month as they roared to a 12-1 victory over White Hart FC.

Darrell Hitchcock hit a hat-trick, there were two each for Drew Eglin and Myles Woodward, with Kurt Dawson, Brendan Hind, Taylor Kitley, Justin Preece and Ross Pugh all getting singles. White Hart’s scorer was Daniel Gregary.
