WATERLOGGED pitches ensured none of the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division’s top eight sides were in action at the weekend, with just two league matches surviving the elements.

Premier Division leaders Melksham Town Reserves are through to the quarter-finals of the Fountain Trophies Cup after a comfortable 5-2 home win over Ludgershall Sports in Saturday’s second-round tie.

The hosts had youngsters Callum Demkiv and Rhys Talmash to thank, both scoring doubles as their side booked a tie against Pewsey Vale Development in the next round. Jake Sainsbury netted the other goal.

In league action, Marlborough Town moved up one place to ninth in the Premier Division after a 3-1 home win at home over Pewsey Vale Development.

Marlborough had the better of the first period but neither team was able to break through until five minutes into the second half when Andrew Neale netted his first goal of the season from a free kick.

Town doubled the lead when Valentin Rascanescu was put through by Neale and notched his fifth of the campaign and the victory was secured by Jordan Ball’s free kick.

Vale’s top scorer Taylor Edwards pulled a goal back for the beaten side.

Bremhill were unable to add to their first win of the season from the previous week as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Corsham Town Reserves.

Home side Corsham took the half-time advantage as Emilio Muprak found the net before the break.

Joel Smedley equalised for Bremhill in the second period, but Josh Bright’s drive from the edge of the penalty area restored Corsham’s advantage and secured the points.
