MELKSHAM Town Reserves took full advantage of the postponement of previous leaders Cricklade Town’s match to go top of the Premier Division table with a 4-1 victory at Corsham Town Reserves on Saturday.

Melksham had recently lost top scorer Callum Demkiv to Corsham but two goals from Will Stead and strikes by Shaun Benison and Rhys Talmash took them top of the pile, as Cricklade’s contest with Westbury United Reserves was called off.

Wroughton nudged Cricklade down to third with a 3-2 home win against Ludgershall Sports, who fought back from 2-0 down to draw level.

Shane Hibbert scored twice, his 14th and 15th goals of the season, and Jamie McLaughlin also notched for the villagers as David Cotter and Nathan Strong netted for Sports.

Trowbridge Town’s search for a victory has now stretched to seven matches after they were thumped 4-0 by fourth-placed Shrewton United, Charlie Utterson scoring twice and Dean Smith and Dom Jackson also registering.

It’s now four wins on the trot for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development, who triumphed 3-2 at Pewsey Vale Development.

Ryan Withers and Logan Cassidy put Bassett in control, but Pewsey roared back to get on level terms with strikes by Harvey Rutherford and Taylor Edwards before Jamie Richards netted the winner, despite claims of handball.

Devizes Town Reserves were 2-0 winners at Purton, with Liam Mortimer and Sam Dodds on target, while Marlborough Town Reserves crushed Bassett Bulldogs 5-1.

Aaron Presley scored twice, Christopher Deane added a penalty and Max Etheridge and Luke Connolly also netted as Jason Hudson responded direct from a corner for Bulldogs.
