DEFENDING Trowbridge Windows-sponsored Trowbridge & District League Division One champions Melksham Town A, who suffered just two defeats on their way to lifting the title last term, began the defence of their title at two-time winners Freshford United, where they got off to the worsT possible start as Chris Birleson’s hosts chalked up a 3-1 win over Dave Jenkins men.

With all the goals coming in the first half it was Dave Percival ahead when he broke clear to make it 1-0.

Jordan Kirk got Melksham back on level terms only for Angus Wright to reclaim the lead for the villagers when he pounced on a defensive mistake. Wright sealed the victory when he made it 3-1 after being set up by Waleed Bakali.

A six-goal blast in the final 30 minutes saw Luxol St Andrews break down a stubborn Westbury United Development outfit who after falling behind to a Tom Rooney wonder goal on the hour mark fell apart and conceded late goals to suffer a 6-0 defeat.

Josh Hard (70 and 85 minutes), Nick Taylor (75 and 90 minutes) along with a second from Rooney on 80 minutes made up the winners' half dozen.

Semington Magpies' 2-1 loss at home to Warminster Town Reserves saw them suffer a third straight defeat at the hands of Pete Drew’s side.

Liam Gibbens, who scored goals for fun while playing for Warminster Town A last term, made the step to the reserve team look easy as he opened the scoring against the Magpies.

Antony Lamb restored parity for the hosts before Gibbens struck again to hand Warminster victory over the Magpies, who finished the game with 10 men after keeper Jamie Hutton was sent off early in the second half.

Stockton & Codford lived up to their early billing as one of the title contenders with a thumping 6-1 win over newly-promoted Calne Eagles.

After a very even start to the game Stockton took the lead when a rare mistake after 14 minutes from Calne keeper Andy Windsor was swiftly punished by new signing Brendan Hind.

Soon after Stockton’s lead was doubled when Hind scored his second by finishing off a fine team move.

Ashley Caws scored to make the score 3-0 and Jayson Stokes added number four before Mickey Taraskevics responded for Calne with a typically neat finish.

Right at the start of the second half Calne conceded another soft goal when a long ball over the top set Jason Stokes free down the right wing and his cross was finished off by Hind to make the score 5-1.

In the closing stages, Stockton midfielder Kieron Edwards headed home a trademark header from a corner kick to complete Stockton & Codford’s perfect start to the new campaign.
