DEVIZES Town boss Darran Walters hopes the Nursteed Road side’s lengthy injury list won’t become too much of a hindrance during a hectic opening phase of the Toolstation League First Division season.

Town played out a goalless draw with county rivals Chippenham Park in their league opener on Tuesday night, but lost the services of skipper Josh Brigham, who succumbed to a calf injury.

Walters, whose side host Sherborne on Saturday, said: “It was a good performance and we worked really hard but we’re a bit thin on the ground with four or five injuries.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up in the first couple of months so we’ll just have to get through it as best we can.’’ Park chief Brett Partner, whose side edged past hosts Almondsbury 1-0 in their opener on Saturday thanks to Aaron Ledgister’s solitary effort, was content with his side’s start.

“It was quite a good 0-0,’’ he said of the Devizes clash. “Either side could have won it, but I’m most pleased about the clean sheets.

“We played some good sides in pre-season and we’ve got four points from two games, with no goals conceded so we’re pleased with that start.’’ Calne Town joint-boss Ben Redford was pleased with his side’s winning start as they edged their Wiltshire derby at Corsham Town 2-1 on Saturday.

Keiron Gleed and Jake Brand were on target for the visitors, either side of Leigh Rogers’ penalty for the hosts.

Redford, who is leading the side with Clive McDaid this season, said: “I felt we dominated, especially in the first half. I said to the lads to not get complacent at half-time and although Corsham scored straightaway, we went and got the second.

“It’s the start we wanted and hopefully we can continue that now.’’ Malmesbury Victoria were unable to convert their first-half advantage as they were beaten 2-1 by visitors Portishead Town.

Shane Bumphrey had given his side the advantage, but that turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.
