THERE is a saying that it’s the simple things in life that make you happy.

An opening-day win and a £350,000 signing in the first week of the season and I know that I’m happy.

Our most recent result may have been a defeat to Norwich City in the League Cup on Tuesday but that’s no shock and not a result that in the scheme of things will be overly important.

So, what’s changed over the summer?

David Flitcroft seems to have been backed and given control at the County Ground while chairman Lee Power has taken his seat in the boardroom instead of in the dugout, far away from the football.

Long may it continue.

It was an opening day success for Flitcroft but it wasn’t just a win.

To do it away from home at Carlisle, score two goals - including one from Luke Norris who struggled last season - with another from new signing Paul Mullin and to hold on to a lead for the majority of the second half shows good signs for the season ahead.

Swindon fans will know our minimum expectation is promotion but winning games in League Two will never be as simple as turning up.

A win always boosts the spirits among the fans, but so does a sign of intent.

And that sign is Kaiyne Woolery.

Woolery has been described as a pacy striker, knows how to hit the back of the net and is young.

Anyone who witnessed the National League playoff final last season, when he scored twice for Forest Green Rovers, has seen what he can bring to Town this season.

One thing we know about Power is that he likes buying young attacking players because he can recoup the money and more.

That’s what smart business people do.

We will have to see what Woolery does in what I expect will be his debut on Saturday at the County Ground against Exeter.

Hopefully his arrival is a great deal on the pitch which gets us up to League One before we next blink.

Finally, who wants to join the sweepstake of how many assists will Chris Hussey get this season?

He has three in two games. I’m going for 103.
