HAVING beaten Calne Eagles to this season’s Division Two title on goal difference, Three Daggers completed a league and cup double over Roy Wenham’s side, as 1-0 victory saw them lift the Gooding Accounts-sponsored Division Two Cup at Warminster Town's Weymouth Street ground on Saturday afternoon.

The two league encounters between the sides in the league were both thrilling encounters so expectations were high for a classic cup final, but the game was a damp squib with Luke Mittens scoring the only goal of the game on 17 minutes.

After a cagey opening 10 minutes, Daggers created the first chance of not when the ball fell to Phil Hampson who curled a shot over the bar.

Next to try his luck was Jon Hogarth who after a great advantage was played by referee Steve Higgins saw his rasping strike turned around the post by Eagles keeper Andy Windsor.

From the first  Hampson corner the ball was cleared for a second and this time Hampson’s delivery dropped to Mittens who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Chances were few and far between for both sides and only another smart save from keeper Windsor denied Martin Johnson from making it 2-0 before half time.

After the break Calne had their best spell, with Mickey Taraskevics having a cross cut out by keeper Leo Whitehead.

Daggers then started to turn the screw again with the feet of keeper Windsor denying Shaun Sheppard on 55 minutes and shortly after Mark Young should have done better after being picked out by Jon Hogarth who himself missed a great chance to make it 2-0.

On 71 minutes Calne had their best chance of the game as substitute Shaun Jefferies produced an excellent stop from Leo Whitehead who other than the save had a quiet game until that point.

Calne never offered much in a treat in front of goal and in the end it was Daggers who finished on top with a couple of wayward shots that were more in hope than expectation.

Both teams were commended for their sportsmanship after the final whistle as they applauded each other as they picked up their mementoes which were presented by Sam Gooding from sponsors Sam Gooding Accounts Ltd, winning captain Jake Packer lifting the trophy.
