THE match of the day in the Shoestrings chargrill-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League Premier Division was at Biddestone Sports Ground, where fourth placed Corsham CC Wildcats were held to a 1-1 draw by guests Somerford, who owed their point to the heroics of keeper Chris Cox.

The Wildcats still have ambitions of lifting the title and led 1-0 at half-time through Nigel Curtis’ goal and would have been out of sight had it not been for the brilliance of keeper Cox, whose efforts were rewarded in the shape of Ashley Monaghan’s equaliser.

Should Bremhill View fail to win the title, they will look back at more points dropped against Rowdy Cow Rowde as they were 3-1 ahead before allowing their opponents back into the game to claim a 3-3 draw.

Two goals from Luke Clements put Bremhill in a control and even when Jamie Walters halved the deficit, Neurin Jones soon restored the two-goal cushion for Ben Redford’s side at the break.

The second half saw Bremhill throw the game away as Jake Roberts got Rowdy Cow back into the game and a second from Walters earned them a share of the spoils to stop Bremhill from opening up a six-point gap on their rivals at the top of the table.

DIVISION ONE

A 4-2 defeat for The Grapes United at home to Lavington Rangers saw them miss out on a return to the top of the Division One table and means that inactive Pheasant FC remain top of the pile and needing just three points from a possible 12 to clinch the title.

Lavington went ahead through Ali Bradley after eight minutes but Stuart Barber soon restored parity and that was how things remained until Emilio Menghini fired Grapes in front early in the second half.

Jack Fisher dragged Lavington again before Cameron Lee’s strike saw them regain the lead and a second from Lee 10 minutes from time wrapped up victory for Kieran Chivers side.

DIVISION TWO

IN WHAT was the preverbal relegation six-pointer, FC Pig & Whistle gave their survival hopes a massive boost following their 2-1 triumph against Old Road FC. The victory moves Pig off the foot of the table and drags Old Road down into the drop zone.

Nathan Dunford won and converted a penalty for Old Road but his spot-kick was in vain as goals from Will Ralkes-May and Craig Berry earned the Pig three valuable points.

Cavalier FC and The Mallard FC met at Beversbrook in what was the final game of the season for both teams, with the former easily claiming the spoils in a 6-1 success.

Cavalier led 1-0 at the break through Adam Bewley and Leigh Blanchard added a second early in the second half before the floodgates opened. Bewley scored two more to complete his hat-trick, Blanchard netted his second and Tom Brazier added Cavalier’s sixth. James Terry scored Mallard’s consolation.

Westbury Conservative Club finished their campaign with an 8-4 victory against FC St George, whose loss means they can no longer beat The Dursley Arms to the number one spot.

Reece Collyer’s opener for St George was cancelled out by Steve Ball, who soon scored a second. Craig Sheppard got St George on level terms only for Con Club to regain the lead before half-time thanks to Ryan Underwood.

St George were all-square again early in the second half thanks to Mike Payne but Ball then bagged himself a couple more to take his tally to four and a second for Underwood and singles for John Williams and Steve Knight put Cons Club 8-3 ahead. Sheppard then scored his second for St George to complete the scoring.

DIVISION THREE

WITH title hopefuls Box Rovers missing out on a fixture for a second week running, it gave the villagers’ main rivals for top spot, Faded FC, the chance to seize an initiative ahead of their probable title decider next weekend.

Faded duly obliged with a 4-1 success away at White Horse (Sunday) B as Dan Jones and Matt Minnis, who was sent off in the second half, scored two each. Kane Scott replied for the White Horse.
