DARREN Perrin admits that the Melksham Town management have something of a balancing act to figure out ahead of two important games this weekend.

On Saturday, Perrin’s side make the short trip to Toolstation League First Division neighbours Warminster Town in the last 16 of the Les Phillips Cup and then on Monday, they roll out the red carpet for league leaders Bristol Manor Farm in the Premier Division (kick-off 7.30pm).

Melksham drew 1-1 with Willand Rovers last weekend and will be aiming to keep their last realistic remaining hope of silverware alive in the league cup, as well as their chances of finishing in a position to clinch promotion to the Southern League at the end of the season.

“It’s up to myself and Kieran (Baggs, assistant) to weigh up how we’re going to approach these two games,” said manager Perrin.

“Warminster are a very good football club and we want to try and go as far as we can in the Les Phillips Cup, but we’re wary that we’ve got a really tough game against Bristol Manor Farm on the Monday as well.

“I think that Bristol Manor Farm will go on to be worthy winners of the league because they’ve been the best team in the league this season and we’d love to finish second but we’d also love to finish in the top four.

“We finished fifth last year, so that would be progression, but the aim has to be to get out of this league as well.

“We’ll figure out how to put out two good teams for these two games. Luke Ballinger is suspended for both games after his red card in the game against Shepton Mallet (on February 18) but apart from that, we should have everybody available.”

Angus Wilson headed Willand into the lead at Oakfields but Sam Jordan levelled things up in the 30th minute, and the two teams couldn’t be separated from then on.

Perrin added: “It was a game that was spoiled by the awful weather conditions – they just weren’t conducive to good football at all.

“It was a tough game but overall, a draw was probably a fair result.”
