CHIPPENHAM Park manager Brett Partner believes that his players deserve credit for rediscovering their confidence and maintaining their resurgent unbeaten run last weekend.

Park haven’t tasted defeat since their 3-0 loss at Bishops Lydeard on December 10, which was Partner’s second match in charge, and they made it 10 games unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over seventh-placed Radstock Town at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday.

Aaron Ledgister’s spectacular volley put the hosts ahead and even though they had their wings clipped just before half-time, Ben Pring popped up with the winner shortly after the break, and Park held on from there to claim all three points.

“When I first took over, I looked at the games we had coming up and thought that they looked really tough because we were playing a lot of sides at the top of the table,” said Partner.

“My first game was against Malmesbury (on December 3) and they’d lost 10 in a row before that but I sat all the boys down and said that I knew they were better than that – I’d played with some of them and played against them.

“They only trained once a week but we’ve made it twice a week now and hard work is paying off.

“I thought the Radstock game might be the one where we come unstuck because they’re a good footballing side and they’re well-respected, but that didn’t happen.

“I’ve only brought in two new players. They just needed the tools and the belief to go out and do it, so it’s all down to them.

“It’s been quite a remarkable turnaround.”

Malmesbury Victoria brought their seven-game winless run to an end with a 2-1 victory away at Cheddar.

Ant Brown got Kevin Bridgeman’s troops on track when he scored from the spot before Sam Parker’s effort ensured the Flying Monk Ground outfit got themselves back on an upward curve.

However, there was disappointment for Devizes Town as they were brought back down to earth with a bump following their 5-1 win over Roman Glass St George on February 18.

Robbie Mitchell’s goal had the scores level at 1-1 at half-time of Devizes’ trip to Wincanton Town but Darran Walters’ men went on to slip to a 4-1 defeat.

Corsham Town’s first match under interim manager Mel Gingell ended in a 3-2 defeat to Roman Glass at the Southbank.

Goals from Robbie Burton and Josh Bright put Corsham 2-0 up but their visitors roared back to win, with the match proving a painful one for goalkeeper Nathan John, who fractured his neck but still managed to complete 90 minutes.

Calne Town suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Portishead Town, Aaron Witchell netting the hosts’ consolation goal.

Corsham are due to host Calne on Wednesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
