HIS side may have left the rest of the Toolstation First Division stunned with a 1-0 win over leaders Wellington last Saturday but Chippenham Park chief Brett Partner was one man not so surprised by the final score.

Darrin Moss got the only goal of the game early in the second half as a Park side who started the day second-from-bottom ended the table-toppers’ 22-match unbeaten streak in the league.

Park had broken their own 15-match winless run in all competitions the previous weekend with a narrow victory at county rivals Westbury United and Partner, who only took over in December, had no doubts that three more points were possible, despite the quality of opposition.

“I think Wellington were 20 games undefeated or something, so it was a really good win and I think we deserved it too,” said Partner.

“In the first half, we had about four one-on-one chances but we didn’t take them. It should have been done and dusted by half-time, really.

“We were quicker out of the blocks, we were stronger and we were up for it, and in the end, we got our rewards.

“The boys are really doing well at the moment and it’s the same bunch that were here when I took over. I haven’t brought anyone in.

“When I arrived, they hadn’t been training that well and confidence was down. It was just a case of trying to make them a bit more solid, getting more shape into them and getting confidence up too.

“They’d been 15 games without a win but in the last six, we’ve had two defeats, then two draws and now two wins.

“We’re in good form at the moment and in even in those game we’ve drawn recently, with the chances we’ve had, we could have won them too.

“I said to the team it’s about time they started winning. We did that at Westbury and it’s amazing what one win can do for you.”

Corsham Town were the only other Wiltshire side who saw their fixture survive last weekend’s freezing temperatures but they went down 3-1 at high-flying Cheddar.

Nigel Tripp’s side host Ashton & Backwell United this weekend, while Calne Town are at home to Cheddar. Devizes Town and Malmesbury Victoria are both on the road and travel to Wellington and Wincanton Town respectively.

Park make the trip to Chard Town and Partner wants to see his troops back up their two good recent results.

“This is no time to get complacent or carried away,” said Partner.

“It’s not about beating the team that’s top of the league – it’s about can we repeat it against the teams that are around us or a little bit above us?

“If we can win again then we are pushing up towards mid-table, which is where I said to the chairman (Neil Blackmore) I wanted to be when I first met him.”
