TROWBRIDGE Town manager Tom Robson couldn’t shake the feeling of ‘ground envy’ when his side rocked up at Oakfields last weekend but in the end, hosts Melksham Town Reserves were the ones left green-eyed.

Trowbridge, who suffered a punishing 7-0 defeat at Shrewton United in their final game before Christmas, have now gone three games unbeaten after they condemned Melksham to their first defeat at their shiny new multi-million pound home.

Robson’s side were pegged back to 1-1 after Connor McKay’s opener was cancelled out, and they also went down to 10 men when Nathan Flower saw red for kicking an opponent obstructing the ball, but Dexter Chipeni’s last-gasp header handed the visitors all three points.

“When we turned up, I definitely had ground envy and so did a lot of the boys,” said the Trowbridge boss.

“The facilities, the changing rooms, the hospitality suite; it was all fantastic and Melksham definitely deserve to have somewhere that nice to play.

“We thought that they’d have a bit of an advantage being the home team at a new place like that but we’ve had some good results recently and this followed on from that.

“We’ve had some ups and downs, and everyone went away and had a rest at Christmas after the absolute drubbing at Shrewton – we’ve had a good win over Calne and could have beaten Cricklade, too.”

Trowbridge won the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division last term but are currently seventh in the table, three points behind Ludgershall Sports.

Robson added: “Most of the players that won the league last season have left, so we’ve had to start fresh.

“I know they were new lads coming in but I think that a lot of them thought it was going to be as easy as it was last year this season.

“We’ve had to chop and change a lot, and bring a lot of players in – we’ve not had the same 11 twice all season.

“But I think that we’re playing quite well now and we’re going to try and have a good end to the season.”

Trowbridge’s win over Melksham was just one of three fixtures to escape the cold snap last weekend, with Wilts Calne Town winning a nine-goal thriller at Devizes Town Reserves Jamie Hall, Rory Davis, Eddie Summers, Reece Allison and Jamie Crump all notched as Calne ran out 5-4 winners.

Cricklade Town booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Senior Knockout Cup by thrashing Marlborough Town 6-2.
