MALMESBURY Victoria may be stripped of their Boxing Day point following the abandonment of their game at home to Oldland Abbotonians.

With the score level at 1-1 with four minutes to go in the Toolstation League First Division fixture, proceedings were called to a premature halt after the referee Adam Baker was forced to issue a seventh on-field red card of the day.

Five Malmesbury players – Krystian Hext, Joshua Hughes, George Peare, Ed Wilkins and Tim Bond – were dismissed, leaving the home side with only six on the field and unable to complete the game.

Vics assistant boss Andy Wicks is also believed to have been sent off.

Oldland had also been reduced to nine players after both Cash Vinall and Jack Knowlson were given their marching orders.

No decision can be made on whether the match will be replayed until the Toolstation League receives the referee’s report of the game, as well as the conclusion of additional investigations from the two club’s respective Football Associations, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

However, with Vics’ five red cards the reason for the abandonment of the game, it appears likely that the match will not be replayed and the result awarded to Oldland.

According to Rule 8.3.4 of the Toolstation League: “In the event of a match being abandoned due to the conduct of one club or its members or supporters, the board has the power to order that the match is not replayed and to award either one or three points to the club not at fault. It cannot levy a financial penalty due to the conduct of a club.”

Toolstation League company secretary Ken Clarke said: “When the league reviews the situation, in accordance with the rules, there is a possibility that the match will not be replayed.”

Malmesbury do not play again until Saturday, January 7 when they are at home to Wiltshire rivals Devizes Town, with the quintet of Hext, Hughes, Peare, Wilkins and Bond all expected to be suspended.

The Gazette & Herald has approached the Vics for a comment regarding Monday’s events, but no one was available.
