MELKSHAM Town claimed the west Wiltshire bragging rights in the Toolstation League Premier Division as they edged past Bradford Town with an injury-time winner to bid the Conigre farewell in style on Boxing Day.

Both sides had a man sent off in the festive derby that was watched by nearly 500 spectators, Alex Monks receiving his marching orders in the first half for the visitors before Melksham’s Ross Lye walked in the second half for two bookable offences.

Bradford’s Martin Lenihan also saw his penalty saved by Melksham goalkeeper Rob Brown in the second period and the visitors were made to pay in added time as Melksham grabbed the spoils courtesy of Ricky Hulbert to remain second in the table.

In the First Division, Malmesbury Victoria’s Boxing Day match against Oldland Abbotonians is almost certain to be the subject of further scrutiny after being abandoned with four minutes to go with the score at 1-1.

No fewer than eight red cards were shown during the tempestuous contest, with five Vics players being ordered off as well as assistant boss Allan Webb before an early halt was called.

It is not known yet whether the result will stand.

It was honours even at Hardenhuish Park as Chippenham Park ended their losing run with a 1-1 draw against neighbours Calne Town.

Park hit the woodwork early on but Max Wyatt also went close for the home side in the first half.

Aaron Witchell hit the woodwork for Calne after the break before Park seized the lead from a corner.

As Calne pushed for the leveller, Josh Legg and Witchell had further chances before Aaron Hopkins won a foot race to push the ball past the keeper and net the equaliser.

It was also all square at Nursteed Road as Devizes Town were held to a goalless draw by Corsham Town.

Warminster Town earned a derby-day triumph at the home of neighbours Westbury United as they ran out with a 3-1 win, Sam Clift, Jack Miluk and Eben Mortimer-Taylor netting for the winners.
