CALNE Town have appointed Dave Ferris as their new manager.

Ferris, who previously guided Chippenham Park into the Toolstation League First Division from the Wiltshire League, left Hardenhuish Park in the summer but is now back in local football with the Lilywhites.

The former Park boss comes in to take over from Neurin Jones, who will continue as a Calne player, but was unable to bring about an instant remedy to the Lilywhites woes as they slipped to a fourth straight league defeat last weekend.

Ferris’ new team suffered last-gasp heartbreak as they were beaten 2-1 at Chard Town.

Despite Marcus Lovesey cancelling out Max Westlake’s earlier effort, Stephen Friend notched with a minute to go and there was still time for Josh Leggto pick up a straight red card.

Calne are due to be in Wiltshire Senior Cup action against Wiltshire League outfit Beversbrook this evening.

Meanwhile, Devizes Town manager Darran Walters aims to draw a line under his team’s county cup exit after a host of factors contributed to their loss at Downton on Tuesday night.

Injuries, suspensions and other commitments meant that Walters was unable to call on the services of 13 players for Devizes’ trip south in the second round and they were duly beaten 3-1.

Matty Russell netted to level things up in the first period but two goals after half-time ensured that Devizes’ hosts progressed to the quarter-finals.

“The pitch was poor and the referee in the middle was poor – not that the result is because of him – and it just wasn’t a good game at all,” said Walters.

“We had players injured, suspended and away with work and out of those 13 lads, four or five would probably have started.

“It meant that I had to give some lads their first taste of football at that level in about six weeks, and we didn’t play well.

“It’s disappointing because it was a winnable game but it’s just one of those things and we’ll have to move on.”

Park lost 5-2 to Oldland Abbotonians in the league on Tuesday while on Saturday, Malmesbury Victoria were beaten 4-0 by Wellington and Corsham Town drew 0-0 at Wincanton Town.
