DEVIZES Town continued their assault on the Toolstation First Division table as they recorded a thumping 5-1 win on Saturday.

Goals from Jack Hopper, Jordan Matthews, Jamie Wallen and Tom Slater’s double guaranteed all three points stayed with Darran Walters’ side as they swept hosts Almondsbury UWE to one side.

“We probably should have had a couple more, if I am honest. We played very well and we started very well,” said the Devizes boss.

“After about 20 minutes, we were 3-0 up. The gameplan was to go out and get at them early doors and look to get ahead, which we did.

“We scored some early goals and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Confidence is high and competition for places is good at the moment.”

Walters’ team will now turn their attention to Saturday when they entertain Chard Town, with the manager claiming his side always look a threat.

“It’ll be a tough game. Every game is a tough game but as long as we keep doing the right things, I think we could match anyone,” he added.

“I’ve got three or four players scoring goals regularly at the moment, which is a bonus, and we’ve stopped conceding goals at the back.

“It makes a massive difference. We have three or four players who are pushing towards 10 goals.

“I always feel we are capable of scoring goals. We look dangerous going forward no matter who I choose.”

Corsham Town secured their first win in seven matches as they edged out Chard Town 1-0 at the Southbank, Harry Miles with the only goal of the game.

Malmesbury Victoria hit Radstock Town for six in a 6-1 victory.

Vics fell behind but took just three minutes to respond when Ed Wilkins headed home from 10 yards.

Malmesbury took the lead in the 20th minute when Jones found Josh Russell, who cut back inside for Wilkins to get his second and extended it on the stroke of half-time as Sam Parker cut the ball back for Jones to score.

Radstock were reduced to 10 men before the fourth came when Russell was on hand to tap in.

Vics further extended their lead when Antony Brown’s cross was turned home by a Town substitute before Wilkins completed his treble.

Chippenham Park failed to end their horrendous run of form as they lost for the seventh time in a row, this time a 4-0 drubbing at Cheddar.
