CHIPPENHAM Park manager Nick Maggs praised his side after they claimed an ugly 2-0 Toolstation League First Division win at home to Bishop Sutton on Tuesday.

The victory was a welcome reaction following a run of one defeat and a draw in the run up to the fixture.

The first goal came against the run of play in the 25th minute when Lewis McCarron slotted home and in the second half, defender Connor McCormack was brought down in the area and Ryan Bole dispatched the penalty with 15 minutes left.

Manager Maggs said: “Any win is most welcome. It was good to get back to winning ways after our last two which we lost and drew.

“We didn’t play very well in the first half to be honest. I thought we were a bit of a shambles but we tightened it up in the second half.

“We want to get near the top and sometimes a win is most welcome, and I would describe it as an ugly win. We were lucky not to concede in the first half because we were a bit disorganised when we didn’t have the ball.”

Malmesbury Victoria held off a Portishead Town comeback to claim a 3-2 away win on Tuesday.

Kevin Bridgeman’s side came into the contest on the back of a dramatic 2-2 draw at home to Chard Town, with goals coming from Sam Parker and Ed Wilkins.

It was more of the same for their visit to Portishead Town as goals from Parker, Wilkins and an own goal handed them all three points.

They will now turn their attention to Saturday’s game at Westbury (4.30pm).

Calne Town were also involved in midweek action but were beaten 3-0 away at Cheddar.

Neurin Jones’ Calne will look for an improvement when they welcome Corsham Town to Bremhill View, as Park hit the road to face Welton Rovers.

Corsham lost 4-3 at home to Bishop Sutton on Saturday, Jon Bazley, Josh Bright and Adam Shipman on target.

Jordan Matthews’ goal for Devizes Town was a consolation as they lost 4-1 at home to Bishops Lydeard.
