RICH Hunter’s Royal Wootton Bassett Town slipped to a midweek defeat in the Hellenic Premier Division, losing 4-3 to Lydney Town.

Despite going 3-0 down, goals from Dan Bailey and Lewis Thompson gave Hunter a glimmer of hope as they got back to 3-2.

But any chance of a revival was then extinguished when the hosts added their fourth of the game. Dale Richards’ goal was too little, too late as the game finished 4-3.

Hunter conceded it was a lack of concentration which had cost his team the points against the Forest of Dean side.

“It was a terrible start. Yo be 3-0 down in the first 16 minutes was really, really poor. It comes down to a lack of concentration,’’ he said.

“I think the positive is we scored three goals and our heads didn’t drop, so from an attitude point of view, it was good to see.

“We just need to learn to concentrate for the whole game. It’s about being switched on but it is a quick fix.”

The loss came after a defeat in the FA Vase on Saturday, in which Bassett were beaten 4-2 by Thame United.

In Sydenhams League Division One, Pewsey Vale’s bid to end their winless run continued last night as they played out a goalless draw at home to Andover New Street.

The draw leaves Adi Holcombe’s men residing in 18th place and it’s 11 games since they last collected all three points, although they did register their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Holcombe’s team endured their seventh league defeat on Saturday when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Laverstock and Ford, Craig Simmons grabbing their only goal.

Vale will look to go one better when they visit Ringwood Town on Saturday.
