DEVIZES Town Reserves recorded their first win of the season in some style as they swept Pewsey Vale Development to one side in an 8-1 win.

The result lifts Devizes into 11th place in the Wiltshire League with a total of four points, meanwhile Pewsey Vale’s search for their first points continues as they sit bottom of the league.

Town manager Tony Greenidge was glad to get the win out of the way and said that the triumph was overdue.

A hat-trick from Cullen Wylie, plus a double from Jamie Hall with Jack Bramwell, Ben Jenks and Ben Tylee wrapped up the victory.

“The first half we dominated but we just didn’t take any of our chances. We went 1-0 up and then we let them (Pewsey Vale) back into it,” said the Devizes boss.

“I gave them a bit of a rollicking at half time and they completely turned it around, they started to do the things we would expect them to do.

“We were playing decent football instead of trying to rush it, the second half was much better and we managed to rattle in seven goals.

“We almost went back to walking it in the net, before we were trying the elaborate pass when there was an easier option.

“I think they knew it was a winnable game, they kept trying to play the ball over the top and catch them on the break, but it just wasn’t working.

“To be quite honest we should have won the week before (against Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves), we were 3-0 up with about 20 minutes to go and we let them back in, so I’m glad to get it out of the way.”

Cricklade Town held on to top spot despite suffering their first defeat of the campaign, being gunned down 4-2 by Shrewton United, with Ben Carter’s double not enough.

Shrewton’s victory means they are now level on points with the early pace-setters, with just goal difference separating the two teams.

Both Marlborough Town and Wroughton are also tied on 12 points, with the former not having a game this weekend.

Wroughton however remain on 12 points despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to reigning champions Trowbridge Town, who are now in ninth in the table.

Further down the league there are three teams who have managed to gather 10 points so far, Wilts Calne Town, Melksham Town and Ludgershall Sport.

Corsham Town got their second win of the season away at Lydiard Millicent, Shane Hibbert’s goal wasn’t enough to prevent a 3-1 defeat.

Ludgershall Sports managed a 4-1 win over Wilts Calne Town, whilst Melksham Town hit five past Malmesbury Victoria Development in a 5-2 win.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town were 4-0 winners at home to Bromham, Lewis Tidy notched twice with Aaron Labejja and Rich Clark also grabbing a goal.
