MELKSHAM Town made hard work of dispatching bottom-of-the-league Sherborne Town on Saturday, according to manager Darren Perrin despite the 4-2 scoreline.

Goals from Luke Ballinger, David Thompson, Lee Davidson and Gary Higdon secured the fifth win on the road for Melksham, who were named team of the month for August.

However, Perrin believed his side should have been more prolific in front of goal against a Sherborne side who are yet to pick up a point this campaign.

“I’m delighted to have got the win but the performance wasn’t as good as it should have been,” he said.

“The scoreline should have been a lot more emphatic than what it was and we were a little bit sloppy and lost our concentration a little bit.

“Having said that, any win away from home in the Western League is a decent result and we are fairly pleased with the start we have made.”

Melksham travel to Brislington next and Perrin is hoping that a lack of a mid-week fixture will help some weary legs in his squad.

“We have looked tired with the run of away games,” he added.

“Hopefully, not having a game this week and giving them the week off will just refresh them.

“We can’t complain because we know what the situation is but obviously travelling on the road every four days to Bristol, Dorset and Devon has taken a toll on people.

“We have still been grinding out results. From eight away games, to have picked up 17 points out of a possible 24, you have to take that.

“I think we’re four points short of where we should be.”
